CHAPTER 15
BOUNCE BACK – SHANGRILADI : “Your opinion, QT?”
“In myhumble opinion,” giggled
Troglodytic, “I think it’s all bloody marvellous! And how clever of you, Inhaler Vlad, deciding not to breathe a word about Bounce Back until we were a hundred percent ready. But now, after six months’ hard work, we’re all a rearin’ to go!”
“I have to admit, I had no idea some of the original huts and some public areas required so much restoration work done,” replied Vlad with barely a trace of his former accent. “Not only have we had to newly thatch the bar and casino, we also had the majority of the guest bungalows to deal with.
“Which we did,” said Troglodytic with a satisfied smile. “Though I must say, having to transport palm fronds from the coast back to here without anyone noticing was a major feat.”
“All thanks to Priapus and Julian,” laughed Vlad. “Who would have thought those two capable of not only finding all those inconspicuous palm groves, never mind bringing the fronds back without any witnesses? Call it a case of literally playing cat and mouse with the locals.” He smiled at Troglodytic curled up on one of the reupholstered sofas. “And as for Middleton James: talk about a genius with needle and thread! Having had Priapus drop him off at the Shangri market, little did I realise his mission was to buy such striking bolts of local batik fabrics and then not only recover the bar and casino furniture, but also all the chairs in the restaurant!”
“For me the most impressive aspect of Middleton James was the manner in which he purchased the fabrics,” chuckled Troglodytic. “Him offering the merchants an all-in weekend at Bounce Back as a form of payment.” She gave a chortle. “All-in weekend? By the time they’ve visited the Blow Go Bar and the casino, their loss will be our gain!”
“Are you happy, QT?” asked Vlad softly. “Happy?” replied Troglodytic. “Oh, my dear Inhaler Vlad, what a startlingly irrelevant question! QT is not only happy, she’s ecstatic! Talking of which,” she added sotto voce, “isn’t time to try one of Timbuk’s Blow Go Boomerangs?” Troglodytic nodded discreetly in the direction of the bar where the fey young barman stood busily polishing a row of endlessly polished and repolished glasses. “He told me last night it’s the cocktail to end all cocktails, to which my reply was we we’d maybe try one this morning after going through our final check lists.”
“Which we’ve now done, so why not put young Timbuk out of his misery,” grinned Vlad, giving the barman a cheerful wave. “Timbuk,” he called, “time to test those Blow Go Boomerangs, so may we have two please!”
“Right away, Meester Vlad!” carolled Timbuk, excitedly followed by a loud, “Shitty shit!” as the hibiscus flower stuck behind his ear fell onto the lava stone counter top. Smiling at Vlad, he added with a dazzling smile, “As I told Missy QT, nothing quite like Timbuk’s Blow Go Boomerang will ever have passed
