The streets became less occupied as darkness took over. People going into inns, the main gate had been shut with only two guards on the inside. A man was lighting up torches and a few others were cleaning the streets from rubbish and food dropped from the market. Hana and Lithia stayed in an inn with a view on the street, perfect for observation. They sensed so many Naguals passing by that Hana had the twitchy feeling to reach for her sword and jump out of the window directly on them.

“Looks like night time is quiet,” stated Hana.

Lithia was consuming her purchased bread and offered to Hana a slice, but she declined again.

“I think we should have a stroll out there and see what we can find. The darker and shabbier it is, the more we may see what is going on here. The mayor certainly has his fingers deep in it and I would not be surprised if they are full of blood as well,” said Lithia, swallowing.

“You know what, Lithia?”

“What?”

“What if there are good Naguals out there? I mean, many see us as monsters as well.”

“A bit surprised to hear that from you, but questionable indeed. Before we speculate, though, let’s get out of here.”

They decided to leave through the window and pass on the roof, so they blew out the candles to avoid being spotted by possible staring eyes on the street. They ran towards the mayor's building that was surprisingly very dark, with only few lit rooms. They decided to sneak into it after sensing no humans or Naguals nearby. An open window gave a great opportunity to enter, so Lithia jumped elegantly through it and hardly made a sound as she landed. Hana, however, created a loud thump as she rolled on the floor. Lithia gave her a displeasing look.

“What? There is no one around to hear.”

Lithia shook her head, opened the door slowly and looked in both directions of the corridor. She waved at Hana that they could proceed. They approached a door with a light flickering underneath it and sensed two humans inside. The closer they got, the louder the moaning of a woman having intercourse became. Hana grinned as she stood by the door, while Lithia continued down the corridor. Lithia turned around after noticing that Hana was not following her and waved her over, fumingly. As they came to a set of stairs, Lithia pointed out that she will go up and Hana down.

Lithia checked the entire floor but none of the lit rooms had the mayor or a Nagual inside. Anything else being said or done in them was worth their attention. In the meantime, Hana had descended and she was waiting for Lithia at the stairs.

“How was it upstairs?”

“Nothing. A man in each room reading. Kind of weird that two are having a better time than us a floor above. I take it that this floor has nothing exciting either.”

“Yes, nothing here. Just men writing something down.”

“I guess we keep on descending.
