CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Holden
I woke with Gil still in my arms and a soaring lightness in my chest. He snuffled more than snored. It was pretty fucking adorable. Twenty minutes until the alarm went off, but Iâd been awake almost an hour, watching him and reliving the night before. His body tangled with mine, our quiet conversations, and thanking fuck Iâd had the courage to ignore my fears and join him on the deck when I had.
From the floor beside the bed, Spider scratched at his collar, then settled back to sleep. His snoring had been a lot less adorable. I didnât usually let him sleep in my room, but I was reluctant to break the special bond he and Gil seemed to have formed.
I lifted a lock of blond hair from Gilâs lashes and set it back on his head. Then I ran my fingertips over the faint lines that gathered on his brow. I had so many questionsâabout him, about Callie, about his marriage, his work, his family, his life before he came to the station.
A test run? I swallowed a laugh. Who the hell was I kidding? I was hook, line, and sinker before weâd even fucked. Just the idea of calling it friends with benefits had been like a visceral punch to my chest.
Why?
Because I knew the difference.
And I suddenly understood something else as well. I understood that Zach had felt what I was feeling when Iâd turned him down. Maybe even more, considering how long weâd been together and how well he knew me. I wasnât sure I couldâve made it any easier on him, but I did finally understand.
What if Gil had turned me down?
Gilâs eyelids fluttered open and he blinked into the weak grey light seeping through the curtain. He rubbed his eyes, rolled to his back, and stared at me for a moment, confusion sliding into a slow smile that spread like sunshine over his face. âHey, you.â
âHey, yourself.â I pulled the sheet over his shoulders and tucked it in. âI have to say I like you in my bed.â
His eyes sparkled. âIt definitely has its advantages. What time is it?â
âAlmost seven.â I pulled him in for a kiss and he smiled against my lips, his hand finding my half-hard cock for an enquiring couple of tugs. âMmm. I could get used to this.â
I groaned and jutted my hips forward. âI kind of hoped youâd say that.â Then I stole another kiss, and he wriggled in close until our bodies lay flush, our cocks nestled together, all friendly-like. âI thought one less pair of sheets to wash on a regular basis might be a selling point?â
He blinked up at me. âYou mean sleep together in here?â
I shrugged and thrust into his hand. âOr in your room. And I was kind of hoping we might do more than just sleep.â
âIs that right?â He gave me a sultry smile and reached for the lube, adding a dollop to his palm before taking both our cocks in hand.
