CHAPTER 9: Do you have talks with the Almighty? Author Neale Donald Walsch does. If you are familiar with his work, Conversations with God, you know that God talks back to Neale. It began when Neale, at a dangerously low point in life, scribbled his frustrations on a sheet of lined paper in the form of questions to God. He found himself writing answers to these questions and they were coming from a place that he could only identify as God! The first answer was, “Are you just venting or do you want answers?” To his readers, Walsch’s series of books and tapes has opened up the possibility that God will talk to us. Walsch doesn’t claim to be a prophet or someone who has an exclusive connection with the Almighty. He believes that all of us have the ability to communicate with the Creator. But we have to listen for answers.

When I interviewed creative people for this book, I ask for the source of their inspiration. Without exception, they credited it to a Higher Power. I believe that the source from which you draw your creative energy can also help you financially. Don’t limit your creativity to art. You have the tools to create wealth and financial independence as well.

Walsch’s work is essentially non-denominational. The God he talks with is very personal. If you are open to any form of deity (or even a collective unconscious) you can open up this wonderful dialogue with only a little effort. My experience with this concept has been life changing: my religious background made the concept that God would have the time or interest to talk to me difficult to get my arms around. The conversations I have now with God are relaxing, guiding, loving, and even hilarious. (The God I know makes me laugh, roots for my success, understands my weaknesses, and considers me his perfect creation.)

Even if you are a non-believer, if talking to God is not possible because there is no God, that’s OK. Think of it as tapping into your creativity or the collective unconscious. No matter how you get to this place, through relaxation and meditation, through prayer, or through walks on the beach, being open to an inner dialogue and a peaceful understanding and forgiveness is one of life’s blessings. You might think of it as letting your unconscious side come out and play.
