“Don't tell me it's too late for drugs! You're not the one pushing a watermelon out of your vagina!” I scream at the poor midwife. Why I wanted to try to do this naturally, I don't know. Mum chuckles beside me and rubs my back.

“You're doing great, sweetheart.” Another contraction comes and I push as hard as I can. I fall back exhausted.

“I can't do this mum. I can't. I need Seb.” I cry, the exhaustion and pain taking over.

“You have to Lucy. You need to for your baby. And you're doing great! Seb is going to be so proud of you.” Another contraction, another push and a string of curse words later they tell me the heads out. I feel like I'm being ripped apart.

Tammy stands to the side with the camera in hand. While she's filming the birth it's not straight up my vagina. Instead, it's the process, when the baby is put on my chest and its first breath. And at this point, a lot of grunting and swearing.

Another contraction hits and I push again, feeling a pop and the pressure is gone. They put the squirming slimy mass on my bare chest and mum cuts the cord. Yet, another thing Seb missed.

Tears form in my eyes as I see my baby for the first time. A girl. She's perfect. The little cry she makes warms my heart. I snuggle her close to my chest, not caring about all the blood and fluids that cover her tiny body. I kiss her head.

“I love you sweetheart.” I whisper to the small bundle in my arms. They take her away for a moment and check her over before bringing her back. Her bare skin on mine, they put a blanket over us and I watch as she does the crawl. It amazes me how our instincts are in us so young. This is what I wanted to see. She nuzzles my breast and I help her latch on.

“She's beautiful sweetheart. Have you thought of a name?” Mum asks and I nod.

“Hayley Rose Taylor.” I smile down at my new born baby and Mum gasps beside me, gently stroking Hayley's head.

“After Seb's mum. That's beautiful, Lucy.” Mum says, tears welling in her eyes.

“It suits her.” I whisper, unable to tear my eyes away from her.
