Awareness of own strengths helps to speed up processes
Consultancy is all about detecting and implementing best practices that improve key performance indicators.
A human being is a ‘creature of habit’ and is therefore usually sceptical towards facing changes. It is no coincidence that ‘resistance to change’ in the process is one of the most common pitfalls. How do you overcome this resistance? How is it possible to captivate each team member and to inspire a change in habits?
In the case of everyone being aware of what is going on for themselves and what others expect of them to reach the optimum business results, the necessary changes are automatically set in motion. When cards are lying open, there are no secretive or hidden games that make life difficult. Everyone is a valued member of the team, operates in an open working environment and is able to work efficiently and exploit their full potential for achievement of the goals.
Team coaching supports employees to grow and to smile, not only in their professional life but also in their private life. Business objectives are automatically moving into focus, and that is the basis for the success of a company.
By starting with the strengths exercise at the beginning of a change process consulting project, Jean-Luc, who was not aware at all about his strengths and was moaning a lot, became a great supporter of the project after the exercise.
The members of our Team Magic were sitting around the table and drawing their strengths next to their names. Some wrote seven different strengths; most of the team needed some thinking time and came up with two strengths after around 3 minutes. Jean-Luc became nervous, moving in his chair. His colleagues asked him and when he mentioned he did not know about his strengths, each of them told him their impression of what he does really well. He started smiling and added his excellences to his circle.
The change that happened was that the team members who were spreading rumours and complaining about other team members stopped this disrespectful behaviour and started working together towards the goal of process efficiency. The motivation behind this change in behaviour was the awareness of each other’s strengths, which changed their perspective from looking at what is irritating or raising conflicts towards the best usage of the expertise of the team.
