Chapter 17

Kelsey

It was time for the full moon, and Kelsey was antsy. Her otter wanted to play with Philippe, and he still wasn't in town yet. His plane had gotten caught in an early snowstorm.

It was too close for comfort, especially knowing how secretive Philippe was about what type of shifter he was. If they didn't get home soon, the team would find out, and she’d hate that for him. She didn’t fully get it, since all the werewolves she knew were pretty cool, but he always swore they could be assholes about the whole thing, saying there was no such thing as a sea otter shifter, then making it into a challenge, and then mocking him for not being a predator. So he preferred not to let people know anything.

She stopped tagging books to look at her phone and see if there was an update from him. There wasn't, and she chucked the phone across the room in dismay.

Eden looked up in shock from the tarot card book she had been reading, since the shop was dead. She rounded the counter to pick up Kelsey's phone. "What is it with you?"

"What do you mean?" Kelsey had no clue what she meant.

"You've been different ever since your vacation," Eden said as she passed off the phone. "And today, you've really been on edge. You've never been one to get riled up with the full moon. You're acting more and more like your boyfriend, and quite frankly, it's not a great look, Kelsey."

That gutted her. There was so much she wanted to tell her friend, but she couldn't. Then to hear that she didn't like Philippe was even worse because he was amazing. Yes, he had rough edges, but he was such a softie. Every day, he did something special for her and made her go “aww.”

"Don't say that about Philippe. He’s a good guy once you get beyond his rough exterior." Kelsey went to tag another one of the books, but there was nothing there. "I'll be right back, and we can continue this discussion."

She went to the back and opened up the next box. Much to her surprise, it was a bunch of crystal sea otters in almost every color of the rainbow. She giggled, since she knew they must have come from Philippe. When she had said she wished that she could get some fun crystals, not just the shards that you could fit into your bra or hold in your hand, she never anticipated that he would go out and find some. He was always telling her that she needed to have some otters in the shop since almost every other shifter, even the fictional ones, had items people could buy. Now he had made sure that they had some.

Kelsey grabbed the invoice and one bag of the crystal sea otters. She couldn't stop giggling as she walked back into the shop.

Eden was still all over her counter. She immediately looked through the plastic bag and said, "Oh my god, those are so cute!"

"And courtesy of Philippe.
