O
Everyone dances differently and the exact same choreography will look a little different from one dancer to the next. It is these differences that make each dancer special. There are times when it is important to move the same as everyone else on the stage, but there are also times to enjoy oneâs own originality.
Dance has been blessed with many original artists who have contributed to its evolution. A good example is Isadora Duncan (1877-1927). In a time when ballet was highly regarded, she found it too rigid and unnatu ral. Rebelling against the strict rules of ballet, she developed a style that was much more natural and free. Inspired by the classics, especially the Greek myths, Isadoraâs dancing celebrated nature and the human form. Criticized by many in her time, she always stayed true to herself and her beliefs. Today she is celebrated, and her dancing is said to contain the roots of modern dance.
In a competitive art form, finding your individual style and not simply trying to copy somebody else can be a challenge. If you are able to truly focus and find what really drives you, and nurture that, you will shine from the inside.
O is for Originalâthat is what you are! Be true to yourself and you will go far.
