The next day Detective Franks emailed Mia, making no reference to what had happened the day before but updating her on two things: that she had returned Trent’s property and ‘had a good talk to him about everything’ while making sure he deleted every photo and video of Mia, as well as their entire message history, from his phone; and that the ADVO hearing had been adjourned and it was possible that Trent might be contesting it.

Mia emailed me the same day to arrange a meeting, but she soon postponed it for a week as she was unable to do anything at all. Five days later, she wrote at length to Detective Franks, setting out with remarkable clarity what she had experienced and how she had been left. This is part of what she said:
