Chapter 18

Zilo

Summer wanted to finish our game; I wouldn’t disappoint her. Though I’d been surprised at her note. It seemed clear to me that there had been no chance she was going to win our race. I would certainly have let the loss on her part slide.

Unless she meant the game I started after the race. As fun as that had been, I didn’t really see a solution to finish it. In bed, I’d considered the option of her hand on me, even given in to some rather electric imaginings. However, even if we made that fantasy real, it wouldn’t be true finishing. Real completion would only happen with me inside that tight body.

But given that she wouldn’t be with me for much longer, that I couldn’t keep her, I could certainly honor her request to lose.

Maybe a week or two more for additional wins and losses before I finally let her go.

I stepped out onto the shore of Black Lake. The waterfalls pounded in the background, the larger center waterfall sending off a silvery mist over the black stones shore. The scent of fresh water and mossy rock cloaked everything.

Summer stood, her back partially toward me, her attention fixed on the waterfall. Was she pondering what we might have done back there if not interrupted? I tried to steer my thoughts away from that. I’d rather spend my time with her without clouding it with the things we couldn’t do.

Still, that little summer dress hugged her curves perfectly. I wondered if she realized that dress wasn’t an imitation of any one person in particular, but rather a pretty accurate depiction of how many demons in the realms saw human girls.

Crossing over to the rocks, I approached her. “Ready to race, Summer?”

She turned to me, blinking. “Hmm?”

That was not the expected response. She was either confused or distracted and not listening to me. “You need something?”

“You,” she said. “I thought that was clear.”

Odd thing for her to say; it sounded like she was jumping right past conversation to “fuck me”, but that couldn’t be right.

She reached out and grabbed my hand, and we walked in closer to the waterfall. Her red curls danced around her shoulders, and my eyes followed them.

“We could skip the games and go right to the prizes,” Summer said. She walked with more sway to her hips than usual—a stride that asked for attention, wanted it. I obliged—her body was a wonderful view—but I wondered where this attitude was coming from.

“Has Ana been bothering you?” I asked. “What’s going on?”

“A guessing game? Ask a third time and I’ll tell you.”

I laughed. A game, that at least was more like her. “What do you want from me?”

She looked up at me from beneath her pale lashes. “I want you. Here. Now.”

My pulse raced. She couldn’t mean what she was saying. Did she know what she was saying?

Summer stopped and turned toward me, placing her hand on my chest and tilting her head up.
