Aiden

“Um, don’t you think we should talk about all this before we go…you know…doing anything? We need to figure out how to handle my dad.”

“Don’t worry about anything, kitten.” I used a soothing tone as I pulled her shirt down over her head. “I’ll take care of everything. You just focus on cooking our little bean.”

Bianca snorted and let me help her off the table so she could step into her flowy, bright-yellow summer skirt. “It pretty much cooks itself, Aiden.”

“Hmm,” I answered noncommittally.

Once she was dressed, I grabbed her purse from a hook by the door and took her hand. I didn’t let go as I led her out of the room and back through the waiting area.

Margaret beamed at us as we walked up to the counter.

“You two are a beautiful couple, if you don’t mind me saying. I can only imagine what gorgeous babies you’ll make.”

“Thank you,” I said, returning her smile. “And thank you for…earlier.” I winked, making her blush. It looked cute on a woman her age and made me want to laugh, but I didn’t want to embarrass her.

She looked at Bianca, her expression soft as she asked, “You need an appointment for next month?

“Yes, please.” Bianca’s gaze bounced between Margaret and me, clearly confused.

“Okay, dear. Let’s see…” Margaret typed away on her computer, but she was obviously a multitasking chitchatter. “When is the wedding? Are you both excited?”

Bianca blanched and choked on her quick inhale, leading to a coughing fit. I patted her on the back, then rubbed soothing circles to help her calm down.

“It will be here before she knows it,” I stated.

Margaret gave Bianca a sympathetic smile. “Don’t worry, dear. Every bride is nervous before her wedding. But you’ve clearly picked a good one.” She pulled a card from the small plastic holder on the desktop and wrote a date and time on it. “Here you are! We’ll see you back soon!”

I cupped Bianca’s elbow and guided her toward the exit. She didn’t protest or try to pull away, but I wasn’t sure if it was because she was still in shock. While we waited for the slowest elevator in the world, I slipped my arm around her shoulders and tucked her into my side.

She finally found her voice and croaked, “Married?”

I laughed and kissed her nose. “I don’t know why you’re so surprised, kitten. You’re the mother of my child, so of course we’re getting married.” The lift arrived, and the door glided open, so I waited until we were closed up inside before crowding her up against a wall. “Don’t you want to marry me, kitten?” I coaxed, my voice deep and sensual. She shivered, and I hid my grin by burying my face in her neck and placing little kisses on the sensitive skin there.

“Yes,” she acknowledged breathlessly. “But—”

“Good,” I murmured, cutting off whatever she was about to say. The elevator came to a halt at the perfect moment, and I kept her close as we made our way outside.
