Chapter 9 – Korah

Finally being discharged from the hospital, I felt like less of a woman. I could no longer have kids, something that I’ve always wanted to do. I felt like it was my purpose in life. Now, I couldn’t even give life. I decided to call Oct since I literally had nobody else to talk to. To my surprise, he answered, only he wasn’t being that friendly. The tone in his voice when he said hello was enough to make anybody feel unwanted for calling.

“Wassup?”

“Can you talk?”

“Korah, we are done bruh. I’on know how else to tell you that shit.”

“I was in a bad accident, Oct. I’m being discharged. Can you please drive me home? I have nobody else to call. I would Uber, but I’m still very sore, on crutches and can’t go up my stairs in my apartments.”

“When this happened?”

“Recently. I’ve been in the hospital for days.”

“Look, I’mma take you home, but after this, we don’t need any further contact.”

“Okay,” I sadly, agreed.

I sat in my room until Oct texted me that he was downstairs, waiting. I paged my nurse who quickly got me together by helping me into a wheelchair. Once taking the elevator and being wheeled outside, Oct stepped out of his car, keeping it running. Damn he looked so good. He had this hold on my heart that was so hard to cut off.

“I got it,” he told the nurse.

“Okay. Best wishes Korah,” the nurse told me. I smiled and thanked her as she walked off.

“Thanks for coming,” I told him genuinely.

“No problem,” he said, helping me up out of the wheelchair. Slowly guiding me inside his car, I winced in pain.

“You straight?” he asked.

“Yeah. Thank you.”

Oct got behind the wheel as he pulled off.

Thinking about my parents, Oct not wanting me, losing my daughter, losing a pregnancy and now being told I wasn’t able to have kids, everything was getting to me again. The tears streamed down my face as I sobbed, uncontrollably. My screaming sobs were only interrupted by my need to draw a breath. Oct looked at me as if I was crazy.

“The hell wrong with chu?” he asked.

“I had to have a hysterectomy. I can’t have kids. Ever!” I shouted.

“Damn. I’m sorry to hear that,” he said, authentically. I knew he had no other words because he wasn’t compassionate like that, but by him saying that he was sorry to hear what I went through was good enough for me.

“My life is over. What good would I be to any man?” I questioned.

“Stop saying that shit. You can still adopt, become a foster parent, mentor children or even hire a surrogate. There’s ways.”

“But I would miss everything pertaining to a pregnancy. It’s not fair. I just want my Kinsley back. Thinking about how beautiful she was is so hard to cope with.”

“I hear you. That shit was hard, but life is, too. You gotta roll with that shit.”

Sniffling, I wasn’t trying to hear anything that he was saying.

“I miss you,” I confessed, rubbing my eyes.
