The girls were already back at the stables waiting anxiously when Issie and Stardust arrived. âOhmygod! Issie! Are you OK?â Stella didnât wait for her friend to speak. âWe heard what Rupert said. Would Hester really get rid of Stardust? She wouldnât, would she? Oh, this is awful!â
âI know,â Issie agreed. Even though Stardust had terrified her with her runaway antics, she still didnât want the palomino to get fired from the film. âI wish there was something we could do, but Aunty Hess has made her mind up.â
âDo you know why Stardust bolted?â Kate asked.
âI donât know.â Issie shook her head.
âItâs like this whole film is cursed or something,â Stella said, looking spooked.
âDonât be ridiculous, Stella! Stardust bolted, thatâs all!â Issie snapped.
âOh yeah?â Stella said. âWell, what about Angeliqueâs foot? Disasters like that donât usually happen on movie sets!â
âBut thatâs just it!â Issie said. âStardust and I werenât even close to Angelique and she just collapsed on the ground and started yelling about how weâd broken her foot. It was all an act. We didnât do it!â
âSo why would Angelique pretend to be hurt?â Kate wondered.
âTo get out of making the film of course!â Stella replied. âShe said in the changing rooms that she wanted to get out of making this movieâno matter what!â
âSo sheâs willing to pretend sheâs broken her foot? That soundsââ The girls stopped speaking abruptly as the tack-room door swung open and Natasha walked in.
âOh,â she said frostily, âI see. Another one of your secret meetings I suppose. All the gang together as usualâexcept me.â She turned around to leave.
âNatasha!â Issie called after her. âItâs not like that.â
âYes it is,â Natasha turned on her. âYouâve got your little gang. You never include me in anything. It doesnât matter how much I try, Iâll never be a part of it. Well, fine, I donât want to be anyway!â And with that she flounced back out of the door, slamming it behind her.
Issie groaned. âShould I go after her?â
âAnd say what?â Stella said. âSheâs right. We donât want her in the gang.â
âStella!â Issie said. âDid it ever occur to you that Natasha is such a total cow to us because she feels left out and wants to be our friend, but we never include her?â
âNo,â Stella said flatly. âNo. It really didnât.â
