I was eternally glad the room Arafel had chosen for me suited my every need. Which was good, because I didn’t think I was ever going to be able to leave it again. There was no way I was able to risk bumping into Albtraum again. Because there was no way he didn’t know what happened last night.

People would be coming to conclusions about what had happened, despite what Arafel had said denying any feelings beyond a strange sort of ownership that he felt for me.

My hands covered my burning cheeks. I still couldn’t believe the things I’d done and said in my desperation for him. But the moment the spell broke, and my brain was able to catch up with my body, all I felt was the same, bone-deep connection with Arafel that I didn’t know what to make of. I’d believed it was the soul binding us together, but now…now I didn’t know.

I scrubbed at my face, staring at the book in front of me. Since I wasn’t ready to go traipsing around the castle’s myriad of halls yet, I had gone back to reading through Lucifer’s letters to Arafel and his brothers. I hadn’t learned much yet, other than the obvious fact that before the Lords ruled hell, they had been Lucifer's most trusted advisors and warriors as they’d worked to carve this world into something all its own.

I glanced down at a page I’d fallen asleep reading last night. A letter from Lucifer to Nephesh, Arafel’s eldest brother.
