Chapter 10

Wesley stared through the microscope lenses, trying to keep his mind on the blood sample underneath it; rather than focus on what his mind insisted on playing over and over. He still had to document the characteristics of this sample, plus the other one he'd received. Afterward he needed to add all the data to his new computer. He had a lot to get done today… but trying to think seemed just about useless. He kept hearing Stone's voice in his head, playing a constant track that he couldn't press pause on.

Sighing, Wesley leaned back away from the microscope. Pulling off his glasses, he tossed them on the cool metal table in front of him before rubbing his stinging eyes with clenched fists. He'd been staring at the slide for far too long, that had to be why his eyes hurt. Not because he was about to cry.

He didn't know why Stone's words hurt him as much as they did. Maybe because he wanted to hear Stone say he wanted Wesley to stay, for him? That Stone wanted him here? Instead of leaving the decision up to Wesley.

Maybe he'd been expecting too much from Stone. After all, the other man had pushed him away just the night before, right after he managed to bring Wesley off with just a little bit of rubbing and kissing. Wesley may not have had a lot of experience, like little to none, but coming from almost no stimulation had definitely never happened to him before. But what if Stone hadn't had the same experience? Maybe that was the problem. He didn't feel the same way about Wesley, as Wesley did for Stone.

Groaning softly, Wesley rolled his chair back just enough so he could lay his head down on the table. The cold metal made him shiver as it touched the overheated skin of his face, but he didn't try to move. He deserved the punishment after leaving Stone hanging the way he did. And he wasn't referring to the night before.

Stone had been so eager to show him around the underground compound, practically vibrating with excitement. But instead of letting himself be shown around, Wesley had insisted on seeing where his lab would be set up. His wounded pride had insisted on spending some time alone, Stone's seemingly innocent words ringing in his ears. So after being shown his lab, Wesley had then proceeded to lock himself away, saying he needed to get started on his work if they were ever going to help Stone and his brothers. He'd been unable to miss the disappointed look on Stone's face before he shut the door in it, as well as the confusion in Stone's gray eyes. Maybe he should have stayed and talked with the other man, asked Stone if he really wanted Wesley here?

Gay or not, Wesley was still a man and he didn't know how to talk about his feelings.
