CHAPTER EIGHT

Andy did well in the tournament and became an overnight star at school.

Suddenly, girls began to buzz around him, and other athletes treated him with new respect. Andy was the first tennis player in their school to achieve recognition, and the experience was new for Andy, also.

The girls didn't interest him at all, and sometimes it was embarrassing, not being able to respond as they thought he should. Some of the other male athletes were much more interesting, but somehow he knew that, even if he could arrange some kind of sexual situation with them, they would not know how to satisfy his desires.

Coach Burke seemed to avoid him after that time in the shower. Andy guessed that he was afraid Andy might tell someone about being raped by the coach. Andy remembered vividly the final few minutes of their encounter and would not have discouraged further episodes, but was too shy to make the first move. The girls on the tour regularly treated him with contempt or just ignored him, which was okay with Andy. When he mentioned their apparent dislike of him to another player, his friend only laughed.
