Jung also introduced other new concepts as the “collective unconscious,” a set of archetypes and instincts shared by all humans that interacts with the personal unconscious and is unique to each person. This led to the theory of “individuation,” in which Jung believed that neurosis could be banished only by bringing elements of both personal and collective unconscious into the conscious mind. Jung’s theory also suggested that psychological development was something that continues throughout an individual’s life, in contrast to the Freudian view that this development happens only during childhood.
