We would have to move in together. Would I be able to keep from making a fool out of myself? God, I don’t know if this is a good idea. What the hell was Sam thinking? She was thinking about keeping me safe, she doesn’t know I have a slight infatuation with the man who will be protecting me. My internal thoughts keep going around and around.

I really need coffee, I can’t think or function without it. This is too big a decision to make without my sweet nectar. Just then, Matt comes back with the substance that I need.

“Oh, thank you so much,” I say, taking the cup from him and smelling the aroma of pick me up. I look at the cup and see it came from my favorite cafe, Cafe Brew. “How did you get this? You didn’t have time to go to the cafe?”

“Scott brought these. He said Brianne knew exactly how you liked your coffee.”

“I love Brianne, she knows what everyone likes. She is so sweet, and that was very nice of him to bring these for us,” I tell him as I take my first sip, and a little moan escapes my lips.

“How does your head feel?” he asks, shifting in his seat, like he’s uncomfortable.

“It doesn’t hurt so bad today. I’m sure the coffee will help more,” I say with a smile before taking another sip.

“The doctor should be in to check on you soon. I never asked, are you allowed to have coffee yet? Maybe we should have waited until the doctor came in and checked you,” Matt says with a very concerned look.

“Don’t even think about coming in between me and my coffee,” I say, holding my cup closer to me. “I have never killed a person, but I will make an exception.”

He laughs, “good to know. I will remember that.”

We both finish our coffee, and he takes our cups to the trash, just as the doctor walks in.

“Good morning, Ms. Holland. How are you feeling today?”

“I feel better today than I did yesterday. When can I go home?”

He puts his fingers on my head and starts massaging around. “Well, the bump is still there, and I know you are trying not to wince, but as long as you have someone at home with you to watch you, you can go home today. I will be recommending you don’t go to work for at least a week. I want you to come back and be re-evaluated, and I’ll decide when you can go back.”

“Yes, doctor,” I tell him.

“By the way, you probably shouldn’t have had the caffeine, but I won’t be a stickler about that as long as you watch your intake.”

“Really, Doc? Some of us can’t function without it, and I am one of those people.”

He and Matt both chuckle.

“She did threaten my life, doc, so I felt it was better to just allow her to drink her coffee.”

The doc laughed and nodded. “Do you have someone at home who
