Chapter 6 - Men Create the Gods in their Own Images
The sun began to barely crest over Earth, shining brightly through the windows of the colonial ship. Despite strong tinting, the light was bright enough to easily awaken Ares. He slipped into his uniform, straightened his insignia, and walked to the ship’s hangar bay. Geoff was already there, awaiting with his security team. Each of the men were armed with long tubes. Since they were in a pressurized environment, they were unable to use the typical firearm, which could cause an instant release of pressure and quick death of everyone in the room. Instead these tubes were crowd-control weapons, used mostly in prisons, they would spray a fume into the air that would choke even the strongest of prisoners until they were sedated. On each of their belts was also a gas mask, of which Geoff offered Ares a spare one. “You might need this.”
“It won't be necessary.” Ares responded.
Just as they settled into a room that sat behind glass windows peering into the hangar, the bay doors slowly began to open. From beyond the door, you could see the continents of North and South America slowly passing by. After a moment, a small light began to grow from outside the hangar. After another minute, they light revealed itself as being a large transport cruiser, the first of ten that would arrive in this hangar. The ship was almost cylindrical, with wings that folded into the base cylinder of the ship as it approached. It was a dull silver, and bared the UGC crest on both sides of the hull. The ship slowly pulled into the hangar, and set itself down on a set of feet that retracted from each of its ends.
The hangar door closed, and a loud hissing noise indicated the hangar being pressurized and breathable. After a few moments, the back door of the ship slid downwards, and five UGA soldiers stepped out and turned around. Following them, two large lines of men and women clad in tan jumpsuits walked down the door, all shackled together. The soldiers turned back around, and began walking towards the exit of the hangar where Ares, Geoff, and the security team stood awaiting. “Welcome to the Dawn!” Geoff exclaimed to the overwhelmingly unenthusiastic group. “Tough crowd, huh.”
Geoff organized the large group, and assigned them to a specific section of the ship. The UGA soldiers escorted the group to their quarters before releasing their shackles, and locking the entrance to ‘Section A’. Within 15 minutes, the next ship arrived, and another group of 500 prisoners, wearing faded navy-blue jumpsuits, shuffled into ‘Section B’ before also being locked off. For the next couple of hours, Ares and Geoff escorted and organized the 4,000 other prisoners towards their respective sections, all the way to ‘Section J’.
Ares followed the last group of prisoners in with their designated guards. “Hey Mister Captain sir, where do I recognize ya from?” Said a prisoner with a strong Boston accent.
