Chapter 3

Over the following weeks, I had several encounters with some of the other women of Undertown interested in having children. None of them was as awkward as the one with Lisa, and I didn’t know if that was because I was getting used to them or because the women were a little more forward this time. Maybe it was both, maybe I was just imagining things.

After I was with someone, I would drown my sorrows in either Emma or Kathryn’s arms, and they would receive me without complaint, holding me, making love to me and making sure I would be alright. They were the only thing keeping me sane at first, but eventually I got used to it. Oh, I wouldn’t say I was entirely comfortable having sex with people I barely knew, and wasn’t interested in, but I did it without breaking down, without losing my composure. It didn’t weight so much in my spirit at least, though I wouldn’t say it wasn’t a weight yet.

Everything was going perfectly alright until the day I saw Maria coming right at me. For a moment, I thought she was going to hit me, scream and shout at me, but the only thing she did was smile, almost sadly, and ask to talk.

I opened my mouth, closed it without saying anything, and eventually gathered enough courage to nod at her, and her smile turned a little brighter.

We walked side by side for a while, both of us silent. I didn’t know what she wanted, and had nothing to say to her, nothing that could help at least. Should I apologize for sleeping with her girlfriend? I hadn’t had much of a choice, and neither did Lisa really, not if she wanted to have a child. I certainly didn’t find it very enjoyable, not when I compared it with making love to one of my girlfriends.

Eventually I didn’t have to worry on what to focus, because Maria turned to me. “Lisa isn’t pregnant.”

I blinked, that wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I mean, I knew that would happen, most of the women I had been sleeping with wouldn’t get pregnant at the first chance, or even the second, but I wasn’t really expecting Maria to talk about that.

She seemed to breathe deeply and gather herself, and looked me right in the eyes. “I didn’t want Lisa to do this, I think it’s risky, and she knows it, but when my wife wants something there’s no one that can stop her, not even me.”

For a moment, the thought of Maria being unable to stop Lisa almost amused me. Lisa was a woman on the petite side, and delicate, feminine. Maria was also feminine, but she was tall, broad-shouldered and muscled. Her dusky skin and raven hair only made her more imposing somehow, and even a little intimidating. Lisa being able to command her was somewhat amusing.

“I know this probably isn’t easy for you, but I wanted to ask you something.”

I raised one hand in the air before she could continue, wanting to cut her right off.
