“Morning, campers!” she yelled in a booming voice. “I want to remind you all of our camp tradition! At the end of camp week, we host an all-camp talent show. When I was a camper, I showed off my juggling skills. Some campers like to sing, and others like to perform a skit. Feel free to do whatever you want! This is the time to show your new friends what you can do! Sign up by the end of the day to make sure you have a spot on this list.”

After this announcement, what started as whispers at the tables turned into full-on conversations and yelling. Everyone wanted to know who was signing up and what they were going to do. Sapphire could feel the energy and excitement buzzing around the room, but she quickly decided not to sign up. I’m already putting on the biggest performance of my life, she thought as she listened to her cabinmates talk.

The counselor with the braids whistled again to call the campers back to order. “I like to see the enthusiasm! But it’s time for activities. Off you go!”

With that, everyone pushed back from the tables to set out for their camp activities. Sapphire was excited that they had Wilderness Skills class first, where she’d learn how to survive in the woods. As an explorer, survival was one of the most important skills.

Sapphire joined the river of campers leaving the mess hall and started following the signs for Wilderness Skills. Glimmer, Sparkles, and Ray caught up with her on the way.

“I can’t wait to hear you sing!” Ray said as she fell into step with Sapphire.

“Huh?” Sapphire asked.

“I think Ray just means that everyone knows how well you can sing,” Sparkles said. “I mean, everyone in Sunshine Springs knows how good a singer Princess Luna is.”

Sapphire gulped. She and Nellie had gone over details about Nellie’s life, but she didn’t remember anything about singing!

“I remember reading about how you sang at the king’s birthday party,” Ray added.

Sapphire did love to sing, but she’d never been able to sing in front of crowds or strangers. Performing in front of the whole camp? That was a nightmare.

But then a little voice in her head said, What would Amelia Hoofheart do?

Sapphire stopped to think. Amelia Hoofheart would face her fears, Sapphire decided. And so would a princess.
