Can we talk?

T.

She stared at it a long time. She didn't have to guess who T was. It a gutsy move to contact at her at all. Shelley had left town and not spoken to anyone since as far as Clark knew. That didn't stop rumors from running wild, and with Tony being who he was, cheating had come up time and time again. Several people had asked Clark point blank if he saw any evidence that Tony had been cheating. It pissed Clarissa off because nobody had the decency to even suspect the one person who actually had an opportunity. It was a sign of just how conflicted her feelings had become. She was intensely angry with Tony for what he did, how it had ruined everything for every one involved, Tony included. At the same time she longed for the slightest hint of acknowledgement that she was worthy of his attention.

Now he was texting her. Why? While she was angry that she was being totally overlooked as a woman, she was equally afraid of the truth getting out. How long would it take, if Tony tried to keep up his 'friendship' with the effeminate boy without the pretext of the job, before townspeople to started suspecting?

A small part of her wanted to believe that he was going to tell her how much he loved her, how he planned to divorce Shelley and wait until Clarissa was eighteen and legal to continue their relationship. Unfortunately in the days and weeks since her discovery she had gone over in her mind every moment she had spent with the man. In the harsh light of day she could see his little seductions and flirting for what they were. All the little tests he gave; they had been tests after all but not the kind of tests she had thought. When he offered her alcohol he wasn't trying to see if she was a wholesome influence on the girls, he was trying to see if he could ply her with alcohol.

What really pissed her off was just how well he had succeeded. Clarissa had no doubt presented a unique challenge but he had found all her weaknesses. She had passed the obvious tests, like when she turned down the alcohol. But now she could see clearly all those other tests, the ones she had failed. She had allowed him to shower her with gifts. Computer parts, technical manuals, software; maybe not traditional lovers gifts but she hadn't blinked at accepting all of them. There were compliments galore too, some about his skills with the computer, but increasingly compliments about "Ms. Claire".

Worse still were the little traps he set for her. The 'permission' to use his wife's closet. It never even crossed her mind that he could use that to blackmail her, to keep her quiet. But he had.

He was not her knight in shining armor, he was as sexual predator. He manipulated women, no girls, into having sex with him. Underneath the warmth, Tony was a cold bastard.
