Chapter Seven
VERITY BIT HER LIP as she looked up at Kash. There was nothing threatening about the man. In fact, she had a feeling that he was one of the only men she could trust aside from her father and his friends. She looked over at the big man who reeked of power and money. He too gave off vibes that, although, she was sure he could be quite a bad enemy, she felt safe in his presence. Plus the woman Cosmo held had to be one of the sweetest sheâd ever met, and Verity had met a lot of women and men. She was a really good judge of character, usually. That begged the question of who had been watching her long enough and close enough theyâd taken note of her trip wires that wouldâve alerted her.
âThe slip in Ventura is between several boats that are rented out to different people all the time. The owner is a man who runs a Boatel of sorts. Iâve never met him, but Iâm pretty positive itâs not him. I also have a slip I rent closer to our home in Santa Barbara for when I go surfing. I guess I havenât paid a lot of attention to who is next to me.â She closed her eyes, thinking back to when sheâd left her friends.
âWho do you go surfing with? Do you invite them on board with you?â Cosmo asked, stepping over to a desk in the corner.
Verity eyed the paper and pen he returned with. She tried to remember the last time sheâd had anyone go boating with her. âHonestly, I canât remember the last time I took anyone on board with me. Hell, my dad hasnât been on it since I bought it.â
âAnd youâve owned it for over a year?â Cosmo questioned.
She nodded, knowing it sounded crazy, but sheâd been busy and hadnât liked sharing the space with just anyone.
âAlright, that makes sense. Sounds like it was probably someone who was good at watching without letting on they were doing so. Trust me, itâs not that hard to do.â Cosmo let out a deep sigh.
âIf I go to the hospital, and this person who was watching my boat and had clearly tried to kill me, couldnât they be watching for me still? I mean, wouldnât you think theyâd have stuck around to make sure I sunk with my Ringer? And if they were watching, then they surely saw you guys rescue me, which would mean they would surely be able to follow me to a hospital.â Verity looked around the opulent space, thinking of the damage the assholes could cause to the vessel if they were to attack while she was on board Cosmoâs yacht. Whoever tried to kill her wouldnât give up because they didnât succeed the first time, and sheâd be damned if she took the sweet DaiTai down along with the others who had been brave enough to save her. âI need to call my dad.â
âYou thinking
