SOMETHING ELSE

White dogs all dreaming the same formula

on lavender lashes.

Roaming inside the gloaming where fire hydrants

Flow like time spun torrents every Saturday night.

Angels blown along the same faraway lanes of cloud,

Like aerial tumbleweed thrown around alabaster cloverleafs,

That are sculptures tying the same knots inside time.

Traffic moving everywhere at once and only seconds away

from violation.

A thousand kilometres of white dunes like waves arriving

so close to fence lines,

And everyday incandescence on desert pavilions

that all illustrate

The same screens.

Choral cadences of the cactus flower that she always wears,

Right behind the left ear on sand-blown corridors,

And trails brought so close to shorelines.

Kites falling like summer inside the same

shocked immanence.

Timepieces inside skies so white as well where time is

so different

And diverse upon every dial.

One desert orchid upon a tear-laden vine that falls

all the way

Outside the same window.

Skies bereft and bleached with the same immanence again,

And set so far above the bars.

Eddie Cochran singing Something Else about a different girl,

Whom nobody else remembers anymore.

White stone bunkers on the interstate where the bomb

Is breathing as well.

Diamond-dust clouds of sand and lamented screens

Showing everybody’s future that contain nothing at all.

Where he is sitting so patiently and wise beyond his years.

Waiting for all the same dogs to arrive,

That tick and recite the same songs

Of sentence on shorelines.

Smoking a last cigarette, its veils blown so blonde

And bittersweet inside time and always waiting for

Something else drifting in so slowly from the south.
