Summer finished her routine. It had gone well today, only one area she’d wobbled a bit. She stretched her muscles as her body went through the cool down cycle. She used the ballet barre to stretch her leg muscles and back.
When her body was fully cooled and stretched she went to the mini fridge for a bottle of water. She noticed a shadow on the windows to the hall. The room had one-way glass, so she wasn’t distracted by people watching, but she could see a shadow. She frowned. It was too large for her mom or her dad. It almost had the shape of Cade. But that didn’t make sense, what would he be doing here?
She wiped off her skin with the towel as she walked over to the door to look. Sure enough, it was Cade.
“What are you doing here? I thought we planned to meet later today.”
“We did, but I woke up early and thought I could come entice you to go have breakfast with me. Your mom said I could come up and watch. And I am totally amazed. You looked… I have no words. But let me just say it’s the most fascinating thing I’ve ever seen. Why doesn’t anyone know about this?”
Summer frowned. Her mother was clearly trying to force her hand by letting Cade watch. She didn’t exactly want to answer his question, so she focused on the reason he was at her house.
“Well I’m glad you enjoyed watching. I think you can persuade me to go to breakfast, but I need to wipe down the equipment first and then shower, so it will be a few minutes.”
“I can help wipe down the equipment if you give me a towel.”
“I can do that.”
She gave him a towel and had him start on one side of the room while she did the other. Her mind whirling the whole time with what exactly she wanted to tell him. She still didn’t want to go into the TV thing, but she could talk about the All-Star Cheerleading she’d participated in, without having to talk about why she’d been in it. Yeah that would work. If they were going to stay together she might tell him the whole story, but since this was a short-term relationship she didn’t want to go that far.
She noticed him stop and examine the hand dummies she used to practice with. “So, what do you call what you were doing in this room?”
“Cheerleading or more specifically competitive cheer, also called All-Star Cheerleading. It’s a sport where people compete. Kind of similar to the Olympics, but for cheerleading, rather than for cheering at sporting events, we have a sport for cheering.”
“Do you compete?”
“No, not since we moved to Colorado. The closest groups are in Denver or Grand Junction.”
“Denver is only two hours, you wouldn’t want to do that every day, but once a week or a couple times a month wouldn’t be bad. In the summer anyway, maybe not as desirable in the winter.
