Step by step
1 We take the seat off the stool and sand the surface of the varnish using a medium grit to scratch it off and open up the pores. This way, our subsequent layers will have a much easier time getting a grip.
2 We continue sanding the chair with a very fine-grit sanding sponge. We are looking for an even matte finish. We clean the surface with a wet rag to get rid of any leftover dust. You can use a solvent to make sure there is no leftover varnish.
3 Using a brush, we apply a base of primer. It’s best not to cover the whole stool with the first coat to avoid drips or a sticky mess.
