Methodology

To estimate and evaluate the proposed model (refer to Figure 8.1), an application of structural equation modeling (SEM) is used. SEM is a statistical methodology that allows the examination of a set of relations among observed and latent variables (Hoyle, 1995). The utilization of SEM has received increasing attention from researchers in many fields (e.g., biologists, economists, educational researchers, medical researchers, and marketing researchers). Management studies are also a field where we can find many SEM applications in this last decade. The principal reason behind that “is that structural equation modelling provides researchers with a comprehensive method for the quantification and testing of theories” (Raykov and Marcoulides, 2000, p. 1). For a better understanding of this methodology the reader should consult Hair et al. (1998).
