Jinsu – Early Release.

I lay on my bunk and looked at the stone ceiling. It was very familiar to me now, as I’d been staring at it for some time. Weeks? Months? It was difficult to tell. My keepers had cut me off from the outside world entirely, I didn’t even know if it was day or night.

It was to try to disorientate me of course. I had known all of the tricks they had tried on me so far, expected them even. None had come close to making me speak.

And it was my own fault! I had been, I admitted it to myself, weak. I’d actually let me feelings get in the way. I’d allowed myself to put off what needed doing. Let’s face it, I could have slipped a dagger into him at any time.

And yet I hadn’t. Instead, I had found myself fascinated with the boy. It wasn’t a sexual attraction, he was still a child after all, and I didn’t go that way. No, it was how he thought, his mannerisms, the way he approached problems and how he used magic. It was… not natural! No one else thought like he did.

There was something about Theo that was different, and I’d wanted to know what. I still did. Others didn’t see it, well, they saw bits, but I had been trained to read people. Their body language, how they spoke, acted. Why they did things; and he didn’t fit any of the patterns.

I slumped back. I guess I would never find out the truth now. Shame.

I had, in some of the darker moments, questioned my loyalty to the Organisation. After all, as my captors had so reasonably pointed out to me, all I could expect from them now I had failed in my mission was death. If I was lucky it would be quick. And yet resistance was all I had left really. Once I said anything, they would put paid to me.

So it was just a game now. How long could I hold out? Could I hold out long enough for the Organisation to infiltrate this place and kill me first?

So much fun.

My captors didn’t know for sure who I worked for of course, but their suspicions were on the mark. Not that I confirmed that for them.

And so, they’d tried all the gambits. Questioning, questioning angrily, questioning nicely, reasoning with me, and when that didn’t work, onto the more intense methods. Sleep deprivation, disorientation, some drugs. Finally, after I endured all those, more painful techniques were brought to bear.

Still, they had only gone up to what, in my training, would have been level two. I’d passed the resistance exams for that in primary school. They hadn’t even pulled any teeth, or fingernails out! Amateurs. Of course, their magical pain infliction was pretty good. That was going to be tough to resist, when they upped their game.

And they had already started hinting of that, with talk of moving me to a more secure facility, with special equipment.
