It took all of ten minutes for Camden to get out of town towards the bridge that crossed the river. She parked and got out, searching along the bank. When she spotted the furry little creature, lying against some rocks, she went back to the truck and pulled her hip waders on.

“I’m coming for you, buddy. Don’t claw me to death, and I’ll save you. Do we have a deal?” she said as she got into the thigh-deep, icy water and walked towards his location. Reaching out with her gloved hands, she was able to free him from the rocks he was stuck on. He barely moved, which was completely unusual. There was no way he’d survive out there in his lethargic condition, so she carried him up to the truck and placed him in the cat-style carrier and put it on the floorboard of the truck to keep him warm.

“Gorely to dispatch. I have the otter. Heading out to the conservatory,” she radioed after removing her waders.

“Copy,” dispatch replied.

“Alright, bud. What kind of music do you like?” she muttered, looking down at the creature staring back at her. “You’re lucky. I make the weasels ride in the back,” she added, starting the truck and backing away from the river bank.
