CHAPTER 13

I place a candle in the center of the table and light it. The flickering flame casts shadows about the dimly lit room, and I pop open a bottle of champagne I brought back from France and fill two flutes. Kitty should be here any minute now. It's been three long months, but my tour is finally the fuck over. Being away from her felt like I was in hell, but now that I'm back, I'm ready to pick up where we left off.

Every night, I dreamed of kissing the sweet maid’s soft lips, and in the morning, I’d awake sweating, panting, and restless from my memories of her. Although we were miles apart, my heart only beat for Kitty. Of course, other women tossed themselves at me and begged me to go to bed with them, but none of them could compare to my sweet girl. She’s a real woman, a hard-working one with goals and ambitions. The women I encountered during my tour were false shadows, and I wanted nothing to do with them.

I press play on my stereo, and a woman with a throaty voice croons a love ballad. The mood is just about right, and now, the only thing that’s missing is Kitty. I can’t wait to wrap my arms around her and inhale her sweet fragrance. She has no idea how much I’ve missed her; I thought about her every second that I was gone.

There's a soft knock at the door. Holy shit, it’s her. My heart races as I walk toward the entrance to my suite. I've been waiting for this moment for so long, and with a big smile, I open the door, and there she is. Kitty looks even more beautiful than the last time I saw her. She smiles shyly at me, and immediately, a spark flares between us.

“Hi,” she murmurs softly.

“Hi,” I reply, unable to stop smiling. “Come in.” She steps into my suite as I glance out in the hallway to make sure no one is around and then close the door.

She stands before me, her beautiful brown eyes sparkling like diamonds. There’s a silence between us, but nothing needs to be said. At this point, I think we both know how we feel. I seize her body and pull her close. She rests her head on my chest, and I kiss her forehead. We stand in each other’s embrace, neither of us wanting to break free. I hold her tighter as I think about the nights I had to be without her. I never want to feel that way again.

After all, the last three months really put things into perspective for me. I don’t want to spend another day apart from Kitty – she’s the woman I want to be with forever. I know it sounds crazy, but we come from two different worlds, and I don't want to be in this one without her.

“I’ve missed you so much,” she murmurs against my chest.

“I’ve missed you, too,” I say.
