History class had just come to an end when a young girl came into the classroom. She looked around for a few minutes before spotting Karria.
“Professor Palmine said to meet her behind the fifth building in twenty minutes,” she said shyly.
Karria smiled and thanked the girl, who quickly scurried away.
She turned to Kya, who was putting her books away and tidying her desk.
“Looks like you were right. Professor Palmine is giving me lessons behind the fifth building.”
Kya looked at her in surprise.
“Wow, you’re getting to train in the tenth-year training grounds. I’m kind of jealous.” She flashed her a smile and stood from her desk.
“My next class will be behind our building. They do it outdoors because they don’t want us to destroy anything by accident.”
“That makes sense,” Karria said, thinking back to the crater she’d left when she’d attacked the lizards.
Kya headed out of the classroom, and Karria followed. They were on break for the next twenty minutes and it would be nice to get some air. Exiting the building, she looked around for a few moments before spotting the building where her next lesson would be.
“Care to walk me over there?” Karria asked. “I wouldn’t want to get lost.”
“Sure, I don’t mind,” Kya said with a mischievous smile. “Besides, when will I ever have another excuse to go see the tenth-year training grounds?”
She sounded really excited, and Karria wondered if a training area should really elicit such a response. Her doubts were soon alleviated as the two walked into a massive open space behind the fifth building. The area was walled off, and she had had to give her name to a guard blocking the entrance, just to be allowed in. Looking around at the area, she could see why.
Two students stood on opposite ends of a roped off area. One of them was covered in burns, while the other looked as though he had a few broken bones. As Karria watched, the girl covered in burns lunged forward, a stone spike flying from her hand, as the man across from her launched a fireball.
She raised her hand and a stone plate formed from thin air, blocking the incoming ball of fire. The man, temporarily blinded by his own attack, didn’t see the stone spike until it was too late. It took him in the chest with a dull crunch and the man went down without a sound.
“Stop!” a familiar-sounding voice called out.
The girl stopped and immediately stood at attention.
“What did I tell you about using the same move too many times?” Palmine admonished the elf, who was now lying on his back as a pool of blood spread around him.
She waved her hand once, and a pulse of energy washed out from her hand. As though they’d never been there in the first place, all the injuries on both the students vanished instantly.
“That was well done,” she said to the girl, patting her arm. “But you would do well not be injured so severely just to secure a victory.
