Chapter 11:

Council of Nations

“Lily, the chief is on the line right now. I need to take this in my office.”

“Okay, Dawn.”

“Dad, come hear what I’ve learned on my harp,” Rose called out.

“In a moment, Tooter Bug. I’ve got to talk to the chief.”

“Okay.”

I quickly closed the door, answering the call just in time.

“Hello, Chief. What’s the news?”

“I hope you and your family are doing well, Dawn.”

“Aye. We are all doing well, thank you. No doubt you have heard and probably witnessed the global attacks?”

“Indeed, we all have. That’s exactly why the council of nations was created. In case of a global threat, leaders would have a meeting place. Are you ready to go?” the chief asked. “We’re meeting at the Vatican. It’s neutral ground.”

“The Vatican, Sir? I can be on my way in thirty minutes. I’m not sure how I will get to the Dublin airport, though.”

“You will need to find a way. Be there in two hours. Representatives from every nation will be there.”

“Understood, Sir. I’ll leave as soon as I gather my things.”

“Be safe,” the chief advised.

I rushed out of the room to gather my things. “Lily, will you help me pack please, so I can leave sooner?”

“How will you get to the airport?”

“I will be driving. My magic will keep me safe, so don’t worry about me. I’ll drive as fast as I can, safely of course.”

“Don’t worry about you? I don’t think that is quite feasible,” Lily remarked.

“I can’t back down now. It’s important for my role. I can feel it.”

“I understand. Just call or message me when you’re at the airport. Where are you headed?”

“To the Vatican. The council of nations is meeting there.”

“The Vatican sounds safe,” Lily replied. “Okay, you’re all packed. Now, hug and kiss me. Who knows when I’ll see you again.”

“You’ve got it, Mrs. Star,” I responded. “Kids, I’m off to the Vatican. Come say goodbye.”

“Woah, right now?” Sammy and Aoife asked.

“Aye. Don’t worry about me. I’ll keep you all updated.”

“Goodbye. Stay safe. We love you,” they all said.

Driving faster than ever, I reached the airport in a time that seemed almost impossible. The drive, however, was far from peaceful, seeing all the devastation. When I arrived, the chief was already there waiting.

“Hello again, Sir,” I greeted.

“Good to see you made it safely,” the chief responded.

“I am curious. With all the alien crafts around, how exactly are we planning to fly to the Vatican unnoticed?"

“By using an invisibility device.”

“I’m sorry, Chief. An invisibility device?”

“That’s right, Dawn. An invisibility device,” he confirmed.

“I’ll take your word on that.”

“The US government developed it years ago and sells to other countries,” he explained. “Okay, the jet’s ready. Let’s go. By the way, Dawn, your speech was great. It was exactly what the people needed.”

“Thank you.”

“I want to warn you, the alien leaders will be there. The Pope will be there too,” he continued. “Apparently, the Pope made contact with them years ago, as well as the US.”

“The alien leaders will be at the meeting? Who will be in charge of this?”

“The Pope will lead the meeting.
