I barely slept because of the nightmares.

The only thing that helped was going for a walk in the middle of the night.

Thinking about Shi helped too.

I had reached a point where not being with her just didn’t feel right.

All I wanted to do was stare at the clock and wait for the hours to tick by until I was back at the club to watch her and protect her.

It wasn’t the stripper thing either.

I didn’t care that she was a stripper.

I didn’t care whether she worked in the office handling the background stuff or was right up on stage.

The best part of Shi was herself.

Leave it to me to somehow have feelings for a stripper and it had nothing to do with her body.

For the record, her body was amazing too. The way she moved and tasted would forever be the best thing I could dream about as long as I could have it or it would be a nightmare of what I had and lost.

I killed off the rest of the middle of the night and the morning.

I drove to the strip club almost too eager for my own good.

I just needed to see her.

I needed to see her eyes, her face. I needed to get close enough to smell her.

She was the most honest reminder I had of what I was doing in my life.

Because my buddy in the security business has sent me three more texts.

There was a gig waiting that paid nice and I was ignoring him and the gig on purpose.

So I could be with Shi.

I parked my truck next to her car.

Just seeing her car brought me a sense of relief.

I climbed out of the truck and saw Luke sitting in a chair outside again.

He had his book bag on his lap and a scowl on his face.

“What’s up with you today?” I asked.

“Nothing,” he said in a short tone.

“I call bullshit on that, boy.”

“Call it whatever you want,” he said.

He turned his head away.

I nodded.

I ripped open the door and went inside.

As I walked through the backroom of the club, I looked around for Shi.

I checked her private room. Empty.

I walked out to the main floor and listened to the music and looked around.

There were only a few people there at the moment.

The regulars who had nothing but cash and time to burn.

They’d go from the bar to the stage, back and forth for hours, until it got too busy for them and they’d leave.

I still couldn’t find Shi.

I knocked on Barry’s office door.

“Shi, are you in there?” I called out.

I heard a noise.

Some kind of whimpering sound or whatever.

Panic hit me. And jealousy.

I had no idea why it was jealousy.

Barry and Shi weren’t the type to end up screwing.

Even still, I threw my shoulder into the door and it blasted open.

Shi jumped up from a chair in the corner, tears running down her face.

My eyes grew wide.

I was ready to take on the world to make Shi feel better.
