Chapter 14

The dining room, which is actually really big, feels so small that I shift uncomfortably in my seat. I sat down as soon as Jenny left, the four men staring at me like they’re not quite sure what to make of me.

If I’m being honest, I don’t know what to make of myself, either.

I never once in my life have done something like that — claimed something, anything, to be mine and then stood up for it.

Literally.

A wave of embarrassment washes over me and I wish that I could go back in time and undo what I just did, but it’s all out there in the open between the five of us. If there was any doubt before about the type of person that I am, they all know now.

I’m a greedy person who wants more than my fair share.

“That was interesting,” Luke says, “although I can’t deny that it was hot as fuck.”

“It was a mistake,” I say, pushing back from the table. I’ll hide out in my room for the rest of the time that the four men are here. There’s no reason for me to be anywhere near them, especially not after I just looked and sounded like such an ass.

“Oh, no,” Mitchell says, standing up and planting his hands on the table across from me. His gaze pins me in place and I have the sudden urge to run. “That was not a mistake, Angie, not by a long shot, and you’re not going anywhere, so why don’t you just sit down and eat your dessert like a good girl?”

“I’m not hungry,” I tell him, but I don’t move. I don’t know how I can move, not with all of them staring at me.

“Sit.” Trevor’s voice cuts through my thoughts and I glance at him out of the corner of my eye. “Sit, Angie, or one of us will make you sit. Your choice.”

Slowly, almost like I’m fighting it the entire way, I sit, my back not against the back of the chair. I don’t feel like I can really relax and I hold myself in place, ready to run.

Or fight.

Or fuck.

“I liked the speech, for what it’s worth,” Alex says, taking a bite of his cake. “It was nice to see you so passionate, especially since I haven’t had the chance to see that up close and personal yet.”

“Same,” remarks Mitchell. “And, to listen to Luke and Trevor, we’re missing out.”

My mouth goes dry. I swear, I can’t believe that this discussion is even happening. I feel like I’m on some TV show or in a weird dream. Sucking in my breath, I pinch myself hard enough to leave marks in my skin, but I don’t wake up.

“This isn’t a dream, love,” Alex says, obviously seeing what I just did. “It’s real life.”

I shake my head. “I’m sorry that I assumed that you four would even be open to — ”

“Open to what?” Trevor asks, cutting me off. “Open to us all getting to
