Itâs been a week since Hadley dropped the biggest bomb on me. Itâs been a week since I got out of detox and completely lost my shit. I canât say that I am proud of that moment at all, but it was pivotal. I may have had a lapse in sanity and a momentary break, but it opened my eyes to the world around me. It opened my eyes to what is important in my life and everything that I will be losing out on if I donât take my sobriety seriously.
That day was a turning point in my life and Iâve been moving forward, not chancing a look back in the direction that Iâve come from. I would be lying if I said that it were easy. Turning a new leaf is never that simple, especially when you come with a past paved in lies and addiction. Every day is a struggle. My mind fights me the hardest, always challenging my motives.
My mind is as deadly as the drugs, but I know that now. Iâm able to see it clearer and when that little voice creeps in, taunting and tempting me, I know that I have to ignore it. That doesnât mean that I want to ignore it, because sometimes I really just want to get fucking high. I miss that rush and the cravings that I have for it certainly donât help.
What does help, though, is the cannabis treatment. I was skeptical at firstâhell, I still am skeptical. Iâve only been out of detox for a fucking week, so Iâve been trying to reserve my hope for when it is actually warranted, but fuck me if it isnât easy being hopeful right now. Any time I feel anxious or like I could use, they have some type of concoction to take, whether itâs an edible or a dab or simply hitting a joint.
It doesnât eradicate the craving entirely. If they had something that would do that, then all of these treatment centers would be out of business. While it doesnât cure my addiction, it sure as hell helps and makes it easier. It takes the edge off and makes it easier to cope. This treatment center is life-changing and every single part of it has shown me why.
Part of our treatment here is also getting a job. The facility operates its own cannabis farm, as well as a medicinal dispensary. Because they have both places, it gives a lot of opportunities for jobs and they also use it as a way of paying portions off of the cost of staying here and being in the program. Most of their paid employees are all people who were once patients here too. Itâs like itâs their own way of getting addicts back into the working force and building a life. And then if you choose to stay with them after youâre done with your treatment, you already have a good paying job.
