Chapter 8:

It was Friday and Jaidyn was getting released from the hospital. Destanee pulled up to the valet stand and exited the vehicle. She really wasn’t looking forward to this, but she needed to be there for her girl. She just didn’t want to see Rashad. She made her way into the hospital and up to her friend’s room. She heard laughter coming from the room Jaidyn occupied; one in particular stood out from the rest.

“Ugh!” she groaned before entering the room. Jaidyn, Brian, their parents, and Rashad were there. “Hey everyone!” she said. Everybody except for Rashad greeted her in return. “Just came to see you off, girl. I know you hate being here as much as I do.” She laughed.

“Don’t you know it,” Jaidyn replied with a chuckle. “I been dying to get out of here since I got here. Too bad Shad has to stay until Tuesday.”

“Yeah, such a shame.” Destanee shot a glare at him, but he was already looking at her. “The fuck you staring at, nigga?”

“Miss me with that dumb shit, little girl. I ain’t in the mood to listen to your wannabe hard ass,” Rashad sneered.

“Little girl? Nigga, you better watch who the fuck you’re talking to like that. You might just find out who the wannabe really is around here.” Destanee was not having this shit. He was supposed to be five years older than her, but he was acting like a child. If she had known he was going to act like this, she wouldn’t have started talking to him.

Rashad snorted. Who did this girl think she was? Just because she was her boss’s child did not mean he had to worship the ground she walked on. “Wannabe, me? Bitch, you couldn’t be me even if you tried!”

Destanee laughed. “Please, who the fuck would want to be you? You’re an ignorant, bigoted, nothing having ass nigga. As a matter of fact, I wanted to give this back to you.” She took out a wad of cash and tossed it at him. “You need it more than I do. My dad made me give you an advance too; since, you know, you’re crippled and can’t work.”

She turned to Jaidyn. She was done with this conversation. There was no way she was going to give Rashad the last word. “I’m out girl. I’ll see you later today.” She left the room.

Rashad was kind of stuck for a moment. He didn’t think she would ever talk to him like that. Then again, like she had said before, there was a lot that he didn’t know about her. He looked up and everybody was staring at him. “What?”

“Really, Shad, why did you have to go and start shit with her?” Jaidyn replied, crossing her arms.

“She started it! You expect me to just sit here and let her talk to me like that? Ya’ll must have me confused with someone else.” They kept staring at him. “Stop looking at me like that. You’re not gonna make me feel bad about this.
