To celebrate her newly found freedom, Sara decided to throw a small celebratory party for the kitchen and daytime waitstaff. She invited Drew as well. So that no one would have to work, she ordered pizza and some appetizers from Pietro’s Pizza located in Prince Charles County, across the river. She willingly paid the hefty delivery fee.

“Y’all can make your own drinks,” she told them. “I am here to tell you that I am a free woman and I’m so happy to be celebrating with you.”

Janine asked if Harry would still be working there. Sara told them that he would work on the evenings when they had dinner reservations and special events. She did not share her plans to remove him from the business. She would do the best she could with the situation until she felt comfortable enough to move forward. In the meantime, she decided to hire a host or a hostess to work a few days a week so she wasn’t tied down to the place so much.

She wanted to concentrate more on her flower business, especially since Dan Stevens was sending more business her way. Since he took over the production bakery and catering business at Tilghman’s, their sales increased exponentially. She was grateful for the added business, and she enjoyed it far more than she did the restaurant business. She didn’t advertise the position, she relied on word of mouth. She talked to the tour guides at the main house and Drew to possibly get referrals.

She felt as though a weight had been lifted from her, yet she also experienced a tremendous amount of anxiety. On her way home, she stopped in at the barnyard and knocked on Jake Butler’s door. “I need something to help me relax,” she told him.

“Do you want to smoke it, snort it, or take a pill?” he asked.

“I have some pot, but I don’t think that will do the trick,” she answered. “I think I’d like to try pills.”

“Come on in and I’ll set you right up,” he said. “Try these, see how you like them, and let me know if you want more.” He gave her five Vicodin and told her to be careful. She paid him and went home. He planned to check on her the next day.

It had been quite a while since Sara turned to this type of “remedy” for her anxiety, mainly because she had depleted her supply and had lost touch with her contacts in Florida. Sara knew very little about Jake, but she had heard he was sometimes called the Pharmacist. She was glad he was there.

Sara opened her door around ten the next morning and found Jake standing there. “I was just about to knock to see how you’re doing,” he said.

“Best sleep I’ve had in a long time. I feel great. Thank you so much.”

“I’m glad to help. Just let me know if I can be of further assistance.” He smiled as he walked off, heading for work.

Shortly after Sara arrived at the Tavern, Rebecca Hanley, a tour guide at the main house, came in.
