LINC

We all ushered Nathan out the door with big hugs and cheerful "Goodnights." Theo snatched the Santa hat off his head saying, "The props stay with me." Eric offered him a place on the couch if he wanted to stay off the streets, but Nathan called for a ride pointing out that Cedric might need some attention when he got home.

The door to the apartment was barely shut when Theo asked, "What's wrong with the two of them? Do we need to knock their heads together?”

I asked, "Two of who?" as we all migrated back toward the couches and chairs in the living room.

Theo said, "Nathan and Drew. We all saw Drew this morning and Nathan this evening. They are crazy for each other."

Eric asked, "One more round of eggnog? I think there's enough left for us each to have another mug."

I said, "I'm up for it,” and everyone else nodded their assent.

Eric headed for the kitchen. "Coming right up."

I looked at Theo and said, "Hudson has an idea."

I didn't know that I said it loud enough for Eric to hear, but he commented, "Hold that thought until I get back, Linc. Hudson's ideas are probably a little more, um, practical than Theo's often are."

Theo said, "Mine are practical. They are just sometimes a little unconventional."

I glanced at Hudson and thought I saw an eye roll. Eric returned to the living room with four matching mugs of eggnog placed on a carved wooden tray. I said, "That reminds me of Hudson's idea."

Eric offered the mugs around to each of us, set the tray on the coffee table and then snuggled close to Theo on the couch. "Okay, Linc, or Hudson, spill it. You have an idea for our skittish little lovebirds?"

I stretched my arms out in front of my body and cracked my knuckles. "Telling you what it is might sound a little complicated at first, but the idea itself is pretty simple."

Eric said, "I like simple."

"Well, bear with me then. You and Theo know that my dad passed away almost a year ago now. Throughout this past year, we've been trying to sort out everything that he left behind, and Hudson has been an amazing help with all of it. Just three weeks ago we finally sold the house, and the closing will take place when we get back to Mt. Evans."

"Wow, that must be hard. Didn't you grow up in that house?" asked Eric.

I rubbed my right forearm and said, "In some ways, I think it will be easier with it gone. Walking around the house from room to room, it's almost like the memories of my mom and dad haunt the place. There are so many stories I start to remember. I find it hard to spend much time in the house without them around. I start to miss them, and then I feel sad. As soon as I convince him to let me do it, I'm going to use the money from the sale to buy a house for Hudson in Mt.
