My stomach fluttered with a mix of nerves and anticipation the whole drive home from the restaurant. This was it, finally. The part of the date I’d been looking forward to all week—getting Ryan alone and all to myself.

Sitting so close to him at dinner had been the sweetest kind of torture. The heat of his body soaking into mine, combined with all those little touches and light brushes against my skin, had kindled a slow-burn inferno inside me. My blood was positively humming in my veins by the time we pulled into his driveway.

The sudden silence that descended when Ryan cut the engine made the air inside the truck feel heavy with expectation. Instead of jumping right out of the cab like usual, he shifted in his seat to face me.

His gaze settled on me like a hot stroke over my skin. “Are you going to invite me in for that drink now?”

I swallowed, fighting the urge to throw myself at him right here and now. “Maybe you should invite me in for a drink. You’ve been inside my house multiple times, but I’ve never been invited inside yours.”

Something that looked like discomfort flickered across his face. “You’re not missing much.”

“I’d still like to see it,” I said as I reached across the console and slid my fingers up his thigh.

Ryan made a sound in the back of his throat and leaned over to unbuckle my seat belt. A big hand curled around the nape of my neck, pulling me closer so he could kiss the corner of my jaw. “I don’t have anything to drink at my place right now,” he murmured as he trailed his index finger down my sternum.

Distantly, I wondered at his reluctance to invite me into his house, but I wasn’t inclined to press the issue and ruin what was looking to be a very promising evening.

That’s exactly what he’s counting on, a voice whispered in the back of my highly preoccupied brain as Ryan’s hand slid inside my dress.

Fortunately, I wasn’t so far gone that I failed to remember the new cameras mounted around my house when he started to push my neckline down. “Hey,” I said and caught his wandering hand. “Are any of those security cameras you installed pointed at us right now?”

“Shit,” he muttered, letting me go and drawing back. “Are you going to invite me in for that drink or not?”

Briefly, I considered asking him why he didn’t want me in his house. But the drumbeat of lust pounding in my ears was a far more pressing concern. I wanted Ryan and didn’t really care where I had him as long as it was private and camera-free.

“All I have is wine and vodka.”

His gaze focused on my mouth. “I’ll drink anything you’ve got.”

My tongue darted out to wet my upper lip, and I saw his pupils darken. “Would you like to come in and have a drink?” I said, feeling slightly faint.

“I thought you’d never ask.”

He helped me climb out of his truck and trailed me to my front porch.
