He paused, frozen in his chair as the idea hit him. Lazlo. Lazlo Wilkes’ death was curious to say the least. He traced back his memory to when he had answered the call about his friend’s accident.

Lazlo had still been alive when Meyer reached him, though barely hanging on, as if something had tethered him to his body. He had pushed the file out of the car and into Meyer’s hands, told him to lose it, that no one could see it. Meyer had hidden the file in his cruiser, and when he had returned, Lazlo was dead.
