Millions of chickens created a need for feed. Hundreds of poultry farms thrived around Petaluma and environs, fostering a booming business climate. Feed mills, egg and poultry producers, and manufacturing, coupled with efficient railroad and river transport, transformed Petaluma into the undisputed boomtown of Sonoma County. Built in San Francisco during 1904 by W. L. Holman and Sons, interurban car 67 was retired in 1932 and ended its life as a residence in Petaluma. As with most P&SR cars, it carried the slogan “Ship by Electric Overnight Freight Service.” Automobiles caused the early retirement of P&SR passenger service in 1932. (Courtesy Stanley Borden.)
