Perfect Phrases to Discuss the Team Leader and Team Member Role
The team leader works within the system to monitor progress, coordinate activities, and otherwise guide activities for successful execution. Increasingly, the leadership baton passes from member to member based on tasks and specific expertise.
As your team leader, I’m responsible for the results even when the situation calls for someone else to take control of the ball, whether because of expertise or some other reason.
As your virtual team leader, I have a responsibility to develop each and every one of you. As a virtual team member, I have a technical contribution to this decision that I want you to consider on its own merits, not by consideration of my leader role.
I’m boundary manager, team leader, and team member. I have different functions in each role, so I’ll make a distinction between them as I see the need and value.
It’s part of my role as team leader to build links between team members. I notice a few of you aren’t communicating as much as would benefit the project. To help create those links, I’ll (example: start a discussion on the site that I’d like each of you to contribute to).
I make decisions for the team to keep from bogging everyone down with having to make every little decision themselves. If I misjudge and make a decision that should have been a team decision, I want to hear about it.
My commitment is to lead and manage to benefit the team as a whole. If anything I do seems to be unilaterally imposed, tell me.
It seems the team needs resources we don’t have. I’ll talk to the boundary manager about that.
