Ms. Morgan finished her student conferences for the day and considered what she had learned. She suspected that the boyâs amulet was indeed a talisman. It fit the description from the entity, and the triskele configuration matched pictures she found in the book called Amddiffyniadau. She searched through all her Celtic books, but she didnât find anything about using a talisman as a portal anchor.
She wasnât surprised. Even though Amddiffyniadau was one of her oldest books, it was still written centuries after the druids had fallen from power. Besides, it was primarily about establishing protections from the spirits or hysbrydionâas the ancient Britons called the extra-dimensionals. What she needed was a copy of Hudoliaethau, the lost book of druid incantations.
Legend said that Hudoliaethau held the secret to the druidsâ power over the hysbrydion. Many of her peers doubted the book ever existed. They argued that the druids and their secrets were long gone before books came to Britain. This same group of skeptics also doubted the authenticity of Amddiffyniadau. To them, it was nothing more than a collection of Celtic superstitious beliefs written by a heretical monk in the late 12th century. She, too, had worried about that, but her defense against the entityâs attack using one of Amddiffyniadauâs protections convinced her otherwise.
Her discovery that the entity was not alone also made her anxious. She was sure that, if given the chance, they would try to control her. The attack from a single entity had nearly overwhelmed her. Without more power, she would not survive a coordinated group attack, which meant she needed a stronger talisman than her two-stoned red triquetra. That led back to the boyâs necklace. It contained three different colored stones, but even if she had it, she still needed to find the ritual spell that would allow her to use it.
If the knowledge still existed, it would be in Hudoliaethau. Other than a few mentions in Amddiffyniadau, she had no leads on the lost book. It was time to reach out to members of the dark side of the archeological world. Under normal circumstances, that was dangerous. The UKâs recent crackdown on smuggling would make that even riskier. The book dealer sheâd bought Amddiffyniadau from was arrested only weeks after she left Wales. There was simply no way around it; sheâd have to meet face-to-face.
