Chapter 27

Back at the warehouse, Baptiste provided a bowl of kalalou with hard bread and Prestige for all, except Jake, who drank water. After discussing what they had learned from the Oungan, they determined that their fears were realized and they had to take action to stop what was about to happen.

Baptiste had just put out maps to show the route they would have to take to reach their objective when a small buzzer went off from one of several that were mounted on the wall. Baptiste went to it and pushed a button and a partition slid open, creating an entryway into a room that had a significant amount of computer equipment in it. Baptiste went to one and entered something and a photo appeared of a man looking up. Baptiste smiled, came back, went to the front door, and pressed another button. It must have opened the outside lock, because there was a rap on the inside door, which Baptiste opened.

“I’ll be damned,” said Jake, looking at the person who walked through the door.

“Yeah, me, too,” said Mike.

Chez walked up also and stared at the man before them.

“This ought to be good. Okay, Gabriel, what the hell are you doing here?”
