CHAPTER NINE

Richard Gamil was living well, and it sure felt like the best of all possible revenge scenarios when weighed against a former life he had so detested. In fact, he was loving life, living larger than he could have ever dreamed possible in his wildest dreams.

Every day was just one big party.

It hadn’t always been so blissful, this cherishing every waking second of each day, no, sir, as he recalled how quickly he had put behind his private security firm in Chicago, turned his back and walked away from his nagging shrew of a wife and two kids he damn well feared would never amount to much anyway when the deal, the dream of a lifetime had come knocking on his office suite one fine Monday morning.

Good damn riddance to those contentious days, henpecked by a woman he’d just as soon shoot as look at, with ungrateful teenagers who only knew how to clip his wallet, whine during whatever little R and R he could grab when under his own roof after a long few days out of town guarding the corporate princes of the business world. A brief calculation revealed that despite having liquidated some properties for ready cash, he still had sixteen, maybe seventeen million in viable U.S. currency to his name.

Sweet.

As Justin navigated the Mercedes limo through the medieval Old Town of Stare Mesto, motoring in the direction of the Charles Bridge, Gamil poured a brandy, then settled back in plush leather to let the capital of the Czech Republic fill his eyes. He had been in Prague going on four years now, and yet, other than killing time with a date he was hungry to take back to his château in the densely wooded countryside for an all-nighter of wine, drugs, sex and rock and roll, he suddenly became aware he’d seen very little of this city of over one million, where the women far outnumbered the men for reasons no one quite understood, but he wouldn’t have had it any other way. With the onslaught of middle age, competition was becoming less appealing, at least when it boiled down to endurance in the sack.

Ah, wonderful, wild Prague. What did he know about this slice of Bohemia, other than history claimed
