Through the wide front glass, she saw them getting out of the Sorento in front of the store.

As they stepped in, India said, "You know, Dad, you have an income stream already."

"Yes, the bookstore. But I don't think that will cover everything."

"Let me show you something." She motioned him over to the window, which he had blithely walked by without noticing its contents. India pointed.

His eyes took in the display in the window. His book, Casting About, was the display there.

"It's selling well enough for you to have a decent income. So you've got time to just relax for a while."

He turned to her. "Did you do this?"

"Yes. I published it."

"Why?"

"Because it was good. And I thought of it like your legacy. I wanted everyone to remember you, just like I did."

India headed over toward the counter and Tegan met them there, purposely ignoring India to hand Kennedy a copy of his book. "This is an awesome novel," she said.

He blinked at the cover, a depiction of a man hip-deep in the river, casting a flyfishing rod. He looked at Tegan. "Thank you..." He turned to India and hugged her. "And thank you, Indi. This was a beautiful thing you did." He looked around the store. "I see you installed more shelves."

"We had to. There was more demand. Tegan has been great at managing the place."

Finally. But look at me. Look at me.

Kennedy extended a hand to Tegan, and she took it. He leaned down and kissed the top of her hand, in a gentlemanly fashion. She grinned. Then to India, "Well, it seems you have things well under control here."

I have things well under control here. India doesn't do anything at all in the bookstore, Tegan pouted.

Lincoln came in and Kennedy saw him, smiled the way Tegan wished India would smile at her.

Kennedy looked at the book-shaped clock on the wall. "We've still got a few minutes." He turned to Lincoln. "Is Cassidy still dispatching?"

Lincoln nodded.

"I want to go over and see her."

Lincoln and Kennedy walked out, giving each other secret glances, and India waved at Tegan on her way out behind them.

Oh great. Thanks for the cursory wave, India. That should keep me going all day long.
