Just as quickly as I'd become submerged in this vision, I was out of it again. A blinding white light hit my eyes and my head began to pound. The pain was unimaginable.

I cried out and fell over as I tried to run. I suddenly heard Kord's voice and opened my eyes.

He was kneeling beside me, looking desperate and anxious. "Oh, God, baby, are you okay?"

"My head hurts," I moaned.

"You were gone. One minute you were in the bathroom, the next I smelled something burning—"

"Sugar."

"Is that what it was? And then I heard laughter. Lots and lots of children, except you were gone."

I was lying on the bathroom floor and the pain seemed to ease. I tried sitting up.

"Careful," Kord said. "I found you like this. Motionless. I thought you were dead."

He leaned back suddenly and covered his face with his hands. "Oh God, it's started and I couldn't even help you."

"I saw her," I told him. I got up from the floor with his help and told him everything. "I saw Monday, except he called her something else."

"What was it?"

"I can't remember." I frowned, trying to recall it.

"It'll come back to you." He dried me with a big fluffy towel, put lots of kisses all over my face and told me Mom was expecting us for dinner. I felt weird.

Not here, not there. I was somewhere in limbo. He held my hand as we drove home. The scene started coming back to me.

It was something of a jolt to see my banged-up car outside Dad's house. He must have had it towed here. I couldn't look at it. I knew an emotional attachment to an inanimate object was stupid, but damn it, I loved my SUV.

Kord hadn't seen it and seemed stunned as we looked it over. The front door suddenly flew open.

Louie and the dog rushed out to greet us then everyone else ran over to check on me.

"Kord said you were unconscious," Lahala said. "What happened?"

"I had a vision."

"You're so pale." Marcella wrapped her arms around me. "And cold. My God, Lio, you're freezing."

She made Dad bring me a blanket and I sat at the dining room table, trembling as Lahala brought me a cup of hot peppermint tea. I recounted the story for everyone. They were all agog.

"My ancestors are Japanese," I said. "It was Boy's Day."

"Yes, they were," Dad confirmed. "Your mother has Japanese, Hawaiian, and Chinese blood in her veins."

"I saw the woman who fell on my car. I think she was wearing the same outfit and the same sandals except she only had one when we saw her this morning." I glanced at Marcella who nodded.

"Except the man didn't call her Monday."

"What did he call her?" Dad prompted.

"Getsu-youbi."

Lahala slapped the table. "That's Monday in Japanese."

A hush fell over the proceedings.

"Wow," Dad said. "This is big. What feeling did you get about what you saw?"

"She didn't like him. I don't know what their relationship was but he, to me anyway, didn't like her being out of his sight.
