One day after tiring of the tail launchings, Paddles asked, “Spout, do you have more strength in your tail or your blow?”

“Gee, I never really thought about it,” replied Spout. But the same lights went on in Spouts head as did in Paddles and before either of them could say another thing Paddles was climbing on top of Spouts blowhole and hollering, “let it go.”

Spout blew with all his might and as hard as he could, and Paddles shot straight up into the air.

“Whoa,” screamed Paddles as he went the highest in the air he had ever been.

Spout on seeing Paddles headed straight back down at him and with a worried look on his face would let out another blow, and Paddles would fly back up again.

Both were laughing so hard that Spout could barely get the next blow off in time, and Paddles was flopping around like a bouncing ball.

After a couple weeks of this new game Paddles was becoming the only penguin with true vertical flying time, even though it was not exactly like how any other bird would do it.

“Why do you want to fly so badly?” asked Spout one day.

“Because, I want to be different than the others, and I believe I can do any thing I set my mind to,” replied Paddles.

“Well, I not only believe you can, I know you can,” said Spout in a proud voice.

After all Paddles was his best friend, and his only friend, and if Paddles believed it, then it must be so.

“I wish I could fly too,” said Spout.

So imagine if you can that first time you jumped up and down on the bed trying to touch the ceiling and what great fun it was.
