Chapter eleven

Mrs. Cliffe

I make all the arrangements for dinner. Daniel will meet us at the restaurant. Amelie works around the house but it's obvious she's just keeping herself busy. When she thinks I'm not looking she steals glances at me and I do the same. The day passes slowly.

"Amelie," I call out to her. "The driver is here, are you ready?"

She walks out of her bedroom wearing the dress and heels I selected for her. She has her long red hair falling in long curls down her back and framing her angelic face. The dress is low cut accenting her full breasts and ample cleavage. It's slit on the side so that hints of her tight thighs show as she walks. The heels give her the perfect sway. She's done her makeup to perfection, accenting what's naturally there with a very light, perfect touch.

I lick my lips at the sight of her and smile. She lights up.

"You look stunning," I say softly.

"Thank you Ma'am," she says blushing soft pink.

"I can't wait for Daniel to see you," I say.

She looks away, concerned.

"Will he be, is he ..."

"Don't worry dear," I say leading her to the car.

The drive is short. The maître d' leads us to our table where Daniel waits for us and his breath catches when he looks at Amelie. He rises from the table and pulls two chairs out, one to each side of him. He places Amelie in his former chair so she's between the two of us. Having settled her, he helps me with my chair then takes his own seat.

"You look beautiful," Daniel says his eyes moving back and forth between us.

"Thank you," Amelie says.

I love the way she blushes.

"Though I think there’s something missing," Daniel says leaning back. He eyes her up and down as her eyes widen and she looks lost.

"Oh, I'm sorry, did I do something wrong?" she asks.

"This," he says pulling out a rectangular box with a silver bow on it. "This is missing."

He smiles as he pushes the box towards her. I watch her reaction, the confusion, surprise, and the joy that blooms in her eyes. She takes the box and slides the bow and ribbon off. When she opens it her breath catches at the sight of the diamonds. The necklace has over one carat sparkling at her. My smile splits my face.

"Oh my," she says breathless. "I can't ..."

"Fasten it?" Daniel asks. "Of course not, let me help you."

When Daniel puts his attention on something, it becomes the center of the universe and as a woman there's no feeling like it. He spends most of his time with his mind in his business and that serves him and us well. It's why he's so successful. When he turns that full attention on you he's the most charming man on the planet. The sincerity, the gallantry, they're not acts it's just him noticing you.

I watch Amelie stutter and smile as he rises and fastens it around her neck. I reach out and touch her thigh.
