CHAPTER twenty-one

Cameron

The only thing covering Cameron when he woke up was Walker. His arms spooned over him, giving Cameron a peek at the H.J. tattoo, which he now knew was for Hobie.

Cameron’s eyes popped open. He wanted to be fully alert for this moment. It was meant to be savored and perfectly lodged in his memory. Everything felt right. The world was as it should be to Cameron. Walker’s grasp wasn’t unfamiliar. There were no questions that had to be asked, no steps that had to be retraced. It was the first time when Cameron awoke in bed with someone else and knew this was where he should be.

Walker stirred behind him. His head moved off the pillow.

This was new for Cameron. Not the waking up with a guy in his bed, but the instant comfort level of being here. Was this intimacy?

As if by clockwork, a little voice of doubt nagged in his head, saying all the right words. Arthur Brandt. Hollywood. Graduation.

Cameron realized just how exposed he was. He pulled the blanket over himself.

“Are you sore from last night?” Walker asked.

“No.” Cameron laughed at the odd question. “Are you?”

He rubbed his lower back.

“Out of practice?”

Walker arched a sleepy eyebrow. “No comment.”

He curled his arms back around Cameron and kissed his neck. His chest hair brushed against Cameron’s skin. Even his morning breath found a way to be sexy.

“I’ll remember to stretch next time,” Walker said. He read his expression, which apparently wasn’t good. “What is it?”

“Before I attacked you last night, you said that we should stop. Do you still mean it?”

Walker pulled Cameron into a deep kiss, but that wasn’t answer enough.

“I’m graduating soon. I’m moving to Los Angeles.”

“I know. But that isn’t for a few months. We have time.”

“Not a lot of time.”

“But still plenty.” Walker kissed him, but Cameron wasn’t convinced. “Do you want us to stop?”

Here is the part where Cameron got the guy out of his bed. Cameron had been in this scenario before. He knew he had a future waiting for him. Yet looking into Walker’s dark eyes, Cameron’s heart overrode every other part of his body. The walls he usually had in place had come tumbling down. For once, Cameron didn’t have a compelling desire to run.

“I really like you, Walker.” It felt nice to say what he was actually thinking.

“I like you, too.” He pushed Cameron’s hair out of his eyes, giving Cameron a hard-on in the process. “I don’t want this to end. But I know it might. And I’m not going to worry about it.”

“Let’s not sully this with labels or expectations,” Cameron said.

Walker held up a hand. He flashed him a sleepy grin. “Consider it unsullied.”

Cameron felt relief crest inside his stomach. This must have been that living in the present thing that people championed. “I really like you, Walker.”

“I like you, too.”

And that was all they needed that morning.

Cameron’s chest was filled with happiness at whatever this was. He rubbed his hand over Walker’s chest. His skin had a natural tan that made Cameron feel translucent lying next to him.
